The town of Gambo offers a variety of local hiking trails, all within a short distance of Black Duck Cottages. These trails are accessible for most hikers, from beginner to advanced, and are well maintained. For more advanced hikers, Black Duck Cottages is the perfect home base as you explore the more challenging trails in the area.

For those traveling with children, Gambo is a wonderful, family oriented community! At the Fun-N-Sun community park you’ll find a splash pad, outdoor swimming pool, a rink where kids can play hockey, basketball, beach volleyball and a playground! Hook into our middle Brook trail, check out the local falls and salmon ladder at Smallwood park! 

The Village Green area is where we host our summer festival and there’s a playground and access to trails at that site as well. Don’t forget the track and field facilities located next to the school(Smallwood Academy) where kids can play soccer, tennis, walk the trails or just enjoy our partially accessible playground. 

Also, Black Duck Cottages is just a 20 min drive to splash n putt, 30 minute drive to Terra-Nova park or a 1 hour drive to Lumsden beach!

Open year round, and boasting easy access to the provincial T’Railway and many other local trails, Black Duck Cottages is a must for off road enthusiasts everywhere. Take your ATV to the local beach, head on a day trip to see the Sabena plane crash site of 1946, or head up to Gambo pond on skidoo for a few smelts. The possibilities are endless at Black Duck Cottages.

Another reason to stay at our cabins is for the top notch fishing! With access to some of the best salmon fishing on the island, Black Duck Cottages are a must stay for anglers of any skill level. Try multiple 5 star salmon rivers within km’s of your doorstep, or book a tour with locals to catch a few cod, or take a tour of the bay.

For those who enjoy the arts, Gambo is the home of many talented artists and business owners. Get a ticket for a dinner theatre show from the local Gambo River Theatre group, have coffee in a 100 year old cafe, buy a meal that tastes “just like nans”, or simply enjoy the history of Gambo at the Visitors Interpretation Centre.
